Welcome

Welcome to Doorposts
Why doorposts?  Why is the address doorposts649? (I'll get to that in a minute).

I wanted to create a theme around this site and around our faith.  This site is here to help bring your faith home to your family, hopefully no matter what age you are or what you family looks like; whether it is just you and your spouse (young or old), a young family with babies, a family with teens or older children, or whatever your family is comprised of.  I hope that this will be a resource for you and your family in all aspects of your faith life.

This Site will also be here to help you get involved in the new Family Ministry at Faith, including the new Milestone Ministry.  I will post events for the family ministry and info for the families that are celebrating milestones in their faith life.  I hope that we can all grow in our faith at home, out in the world and in our church.

The Bible tells us many things, but one of the things it tells us is that sharing our faith is important.  The best way to share our faith is to start at home.  I believe that home is where your family's faith will grow the most and where your children (no matter what age) will be introduced to much of their faith life and practices.  Whether it is an intentional devotional time, prayer before dinner, bedtime, or at special occasions, home is where faith is formed.

For the Israelites their statement of faith is called the Shema Yishrael.  For Christians we know part of that statement as the Great Commandment.  The whole paragraph is a very powerful statement and is what I used to put together the title and theme of this blog.  Read these words from Deuteronomy 6:
Hear, O Israel: The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. Keep these words that I am commanding you today in your heart. Recite them to your children and talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise. Bind them as a sign on your hand, fix them as an emblem on your forehead, and write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. - Deuteronomy 6:4-9
I want this passage to be the basis for our journey together.  To share our faith with each other and to pass it on to our children, to talk about it with them when we're home, when we're away, when we get up and when we go to bed, and to put these words on our doorposts so that all might know how much God loves them.

I hope and pray that this will be a resource for your whole family and that through this site we are able to lift each other up through the milestones of our faith, and that together we can bring God to our homes, to our work, to our community, and anywhere we find ourselves.
